The SSP-1 digital pressure sensor combines exceptional accuracy with a very small form factor. The device was originally designed when Lockheed Martin needed a precision / navigation grade depth sensing capability for use in a small AUV. Space was limited and available high-precision depth sensors were too large. Each SSP-1 device is fully characterized over its specified pressure and temperature range, containing an electronic ‘error surface’ that yields an accuracy that is generally better than 0.02% of full scale relative to the pressure calibration reference, and is conservatively specified as 0.1% of full scale worst case. Precision is better than 0.01% of full scale. This means that the 500 PSIA model, which operates to a depth of approximately 300 meters can detect changes in pressure equivalent to 0.03m of water and accurately measure to within 0.06m typical. 

The SSP-1 provides pressure data via a RS-232 serial interface, and also as a PWM signal (TTL levels). A human readable text data format is used, and pressure units can be adjusted as needed. 

Beyond Lockheed Martin, customers include the U.S. Navy, a foreign manufacturer of military dive equipment, defense contractors such as BAE, ROV manufacturers including Shark Marine and universities.
