Animal Tags

Funded Through NOAA SBIR

SeaTag is a family of animal tags consisting of archival tags, RF transmitting archival tags, pop-up satellite tags, land-based satellite imagery stations, and a releasable carrier platform.

SeaTag expands on current tagging technologies by offering a different array of sensors and capabilities. For example, SeaTag acquires latitude positioning through use of a 3-axis magnetometer which improves accuracy (tests shows average of 35nm error). All SeaTag devices are powered through the use of stored solar power with the exception of -CAM and -RC which also use batteries. The tag is equipped with a solar cell and a capacitor which powers the tag for approximately two weeks of total darkness on tens of minutes of sunlight.
Finally, you will notice that SeaTag prices are relatively lower than comparable tags. This is no indication of a quality difference; NOAA funded the research and development of SeaTag in order to have less expensive and more advanced tags. Furthermore, we believe that reduced costs will lead to more research and significantly more data.
Products
SeaTag-GEO™
SeaTag-GEO™ is a small solar powered, geo-magnetic tag. It is a geo-location tag that is designed to give precise latitude, longitude, and temperature.

Size: 40mm L x 18mm D
Weight: 15g

SeaTag-SOL™
SeaTag-SOL™ is our lifetime animal tag with built-in 'wifi'. This tag will have a large variety of sensors: magnetometer, accelerometer, temperature, depth, light sensing, and more.
Size: 60mm L x 22mm D
Weight: 27g

SeaTag-MOD™
SeaTag-MOD™ is a modular pop-up satellite tag with plug-and-play (payload) sections. This tag will have a variety of sections that the user can attach or detach; it will also be able to have custom sections for a specific task. The main section will be based on the SeaTag-SOL™.
Size: 80-200mm L x 22mm D
Weight: 45-140g

SeaTag-CAM™
SeaTag-CAM™ is small camera tag used to obtain and transmit (via ARGOS satellite) images of remote locations or locations where human interaction is not desired. This tag may also see use in the defense section based on its size and the ability to transmit the images via the ARGOS system. It, too, will be partially solar powered.
Size: 150mm H x 75mm W x 75mm D
Weight: 900g

SeaTag-RC™
The SeaTag™-RC is a remote releasable instrument carrier used to track and record mammal activities. The SeaTag-RC is placed on the animal and can be recovered by using a transmitter to locate and release the tag. This effective form of retrieving the SeaTag-RC minimizes human-to-animal interaction, therefore strengthening the chances of retrieving and analyzing data.
Size: 68mm H x 93mm L x 25mm D
Weight: 220g
